Help, I Broke a tooth!

We know dental emergencies can happen when we least expect them. At Dental Ben’s we offer same day appointments, which is why Dr. Cooperman is known as the go-to emergency dentist in Peoria! We offer Saturday hours (every other Saturday) and if it is a dental emergency you can call the office and select to speak directly to Dr. Ben on his cell phone. So what do I do if I break a tooth?

First thing: don’t panic! These things happen. Being prepared and knowing you have a dentist you can rely on in case of emergency will make a big difference.

1. Place the broken piece of the tooth into a container with milk and remember to bring it with you to your emergency dental appointment. Rinse out your mouth with warm water or saltwater.
2. Apply a cold compress to the cheek in correspondence with the broken tooth. This will help with the pain and reduce swelling.
3. Apply gauze to the broken tooth to help soak up the bleeding.

5. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen to reduce the pain.

Treatments for a chipped, broken or cracked tooth include:

-Gluing the fragment of tooth back on.

-A filling or placing a crown on the tooth
