Oral Health Tips From Our Dental Assistant

Patient getting dental cleaning

Our dental assistant’s name is Pat and she is very passionate about oral health. She has been here since day one. She enjoys educating our patients on the best ways to help promote healthy habits. The following are her top recommendations for oral health.

Brushing & Flossing

The best way to keep your smile fresh is brushing at least two times a day and flossing at least once. “Don’t forget to floss,” Pat always says. Use of an interdental cleaner (like floss) is an essential part of taking care of your teeth and gums; the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reaffirmed flossing as “an important oral hygiene practice”

Regular Dental Visits

Every 4 to 6 months it is suggested that you get a cleaning. This might seem like a lot but imagine if you had a dark, damp, warm room. Would you worry that mold may be hiding somewhere? Imagine your mouth in a similar light. Healthy habits can prevent painful uncomfortable situations. Oral Health seems to be an afterthought for many but given the proper priority it doesn’t have to be such a dreaded visit.

Drink More Water

As many can agree it seems easier to drink anything other than water. Unfortunately, most of the other things we drink contain sugar or are acidic. For example, many of us will drink coffee or soda throughout the day. These things contain acid which does more than just stain your teeth. It is suggested if you are drinking a lot of these types of drinks throughout the day to rinse your mouth with water at least. This will help balance out the PH in your mouth.

Add To Your Oral Health

Consider electric toothbrushes, tongue scrapers, and water picks for a healthier mouth. Putting in the necessary time and effort to maintain a healthy and consistent routine will ensure for good breath, fewer cavities, along with more enjoyable visits to your dentist and dental assistant.

In order to maintain the best Oral Health it is vital to remain diligent in adhering to a regular routine. Contact Dental Ben’s today to schedule your next cleaning in Peoria. Pat is looking forward to it.
